A MEK is deployed in the context of the prevention and prosecution of criminal offenses of major significance when specially trained and equipped forces are required for surveillance and manhunts. A TEG is used in particular to carry out technical-operational measures. This is often done on behalf of a specialist criminal investigation department if they have information about serious crimes.
