Current situation

In 2022, the number of reported corruption offenses and accompanying offenses will decrease slightly; no significant anomalies can be derived here. The fluctuation in the number of cases can essentially be explained by the respective focal points in the reported scope proceedings.

The number of scope proceedings concluded in 2022 fell by around two thirds. This statistic depends on the time at which the data was included in the situation report and does not show any significant development in corruption-related crime when viewed over several years.

In 2022, the NRW Anti-Corruption Act was amended and the Anti-Corruption Decree was renewed. This once again highlighted the importance of preventative measures to combat corruption and the need for cooperation between all agencies involved in the prevention, detection and prosecution of corrupt practices. The networking of the agencies involved is a particularly important building block in the fight against corruption.

The importance of the fight against corruption was also underlined by the NRW state government's Future Contract 2022. For example, the fight against crime in the areas of money laundering, tax fraud and corruption is to be further intensified.
