There may not be any major events like the ones that took place before the coronavirus pandemic. Where thousands of people gather in large numbers, making them a popular target for pickpockets. But they still exist: individual places where many people still gather. For example, on buses, trains and trains and at the corresponding stops - especially in Dortmund city center. Because thefts, especially of purses and cell phones, are now occurring here again and again, the police are now repeating their simple tips - true to the motto "open your eyes and close your bag" - to protect yourself from thieves:

• Always carry only the valuables you need! Do I have to carry all my IDs and cards when I go out with my girlfriend? Do I need a large amount of cash in my wallet for a date in a café? Do I always need to have all my keys with me?
• Stow your valuables as close to your body as possible! Means: inside instead of outside pocket!
• Stow as few valuables as possible in handbags or rucksacks. And if you do: keep an eye on them! And carry them with the zippers and openings facing your body.
• Be attentive! This applies in particular to crowded situations: when getting on and off buses and trains, on escalators, but also on public transport. Watch out for people around you who come unusually close to you, bump into you or similar. And keep a close eye on bags and rucksacks!
