(jd) An attentive witness heard a smoke alarm go off in a house in Raiffeisenstraße at 9.50 p.m. on Tuesday (3 July) and called the emergency services. Once on site, the police officers discovered a break-in: a rear cellar door was open and both the ground floor and second floor had apparently been ransacked. According to initial investigations, the unknown perpetrator or perpetrators entered the house, which is currently being renovated, via the balcony, where they first broke a window. In the basement of the house, they set fire to a roll of kitchen paper, which set off the smoke alarm. Property damage in the three-digit range was caused. The owners who arrived at the scene discovered after an initial inspection that no stolen goods had been taken. The criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation and is asking any witnesses who observed anything unusual in the Raiffeisenstraße area to contact them on 05221/8880.
