The fan walks of both teams started at around 6 p.m. with more than 40,000 soccer supporters from the fan meeting points on Kitschburger Straße and Josef-Lammerting-Allee in the direction of the stadium. During the fan walks and in the fan zones on Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer and at the Tanzbrunnen, visitors to the events set off pyrotechnics.

Before and during the soccer match, several Scottish fans attempted to enter a cordoned-off area next to the stadium. Riot police intervened and filed five charges of trespassing. While climbing over a stadium fence, a Scottish soccer fan sustained serious injuries through no fault of his own and had to be taken to hospital.

On the way to the stadium, a suspected drunk e-scooter driver (40) collided with an oncoming cyclist (52) on Hahnenstraße before kick-off at around 5.40 pm. Emergency services ordered a blood sample to be taken from the 40-year-old Swiss man and made a security deposit. The 52-year-old man from Hungary suffered serious injuries in the accident.
