An attentive witness was startled by a loud bang on Sunday evening (21 July) when she witnessed a traffic accident on Bielefelder Straße in Spenge. The driver of a red Fiat Panda was driving out of town towards Werther Straße at around 9 p.m. and lost control of his vehicle at house number 71. He skidded into a street lamp and an adjacent property wall.
Instead of attending to the damage caused, the driver continued on his way despite considerable damage to the Fiat. The witness reacted with lightning speed and was able to follow the fleeing vehicle to Finkenstraße and persuade the driver to stop.
During the subsequent accident investigation by the alerted police officers, the 25-year-old driver from Enger was voluntarily given an Alco test and a preliminary drug test. These were clearly positive on the spot. Blood samples were taken from the man from Enger and his driver's license was provisionally confiscated. The damage to the vehicle, the lamppost and the property wall is estimated at around 5,000 euros.
