(jd) A 77-year-old from Hiddenhaus rode his pedelec along the footpath and cycle path that runs alongside Pestalozzistraße towards Milchstraße yesterday (3 July) at 5.55 pm. At Kleistweg, the man from Hiddenhausen lost control of his pedelec and fell. Witnesses who were nearby immediately took care of the man before the ambulance and emergency doctor arrived. The 77-year-old was then taken to hospital with serious head injuries. Pestalozzistraße between Humboldtstraße and Eichendorffweg remained fully closed for the duration of the accident investigation, for which a traffic accident investigation team from the Bielefeld police headquarters was called in. According to initial investigations, the 77-year-old wanted to change from the cycle path to the road and presumably came too close to the curb there with one tire, causing him to fall. He was not wearing a bicycle helmet at the time of the accident. The Herford police traffic commissioner's office will take over the further investigation.
