On their way to an operation on Thursday evening, police officers witnessed a traffic accident at the traffic circle in Exter on Detmolder Straße. At the time of the accident at around 10.45 p.m., the officers were on the exit of the A2 motorway and intended to drive towards Vlotho via Herforder Straße. The officers noticed a driver of a Ford Transit trying to enter the traffic circle via Detmolder Straße. On entering the roundabout, the Transit collided with a traffic sign pole that was standing on the traffic island there. The pole fell onto the road and blocked it. The police officers broke off the original operation and dealt with the accident. During the investigation, the 24-year-old driver from Vlotho showed clear behavioral abnormalities that indicated the consumption of narcotics. A voluntary preliminary drug test was subsequently positive. A blood sample was taken from the Vlotho man at Herford police station and he was temporarily banned from continuing his journey. After all police measures had been completed, the 24-year-old took care of removing the Ford Transit and the Vlotho fire department took care of erecting the traffic signs. The material damage is estimated at around 1,000 euros.
