On Friday evening (26.7.) at around 7.15 p.m., two previously unknown male persons rang the doorbell of a senior citizen at Wassergraben. Both men claimed to be employees of an energy supplier. However, as the senior citizen had doubts, she asked for appropriate identification. As the strangers were unable to produce them, they initially left the property. A short time later, the people returned and showed the victim an ID card that "supposedly" legitimized them as employees. In good faith that they were genuine employees, she let the men into the house. Under false pretenses, the men first went to the electricity meter in the basement.
Suddenly, they physically attacked the senior citizen and kicked her in the face. The kicks caused the senior citizen to fall to the floor with injuries. The victim screamed for help several times to alert the neighbors to the situation. The two strangers let go of the woman and fled the house. Startled by the screams for help, the elderly woman's neighbors rushed to her aid and alerted the police and emergency services. She was slightly injured by the kicks.
The attentive neighbors were able to identify a suspicious vehicle in the area of the house in advance, where a license plate number was read. As it could not be ruled out that the vehicle and its occupants were connected to the crime, a manhunt was initiated.
The following night, police officers from Wilhelmshaven police station carried out a check of the owner's address. A 24-year-old from Wilhelmshaven was provisionally arrested on suspicion of being involved in the crime. Corresponding evidence was seized on the spot. Investigations into the second perpetrator are still ongoing. The criminal investigation department has taken over the further investigation.
