In the early morning of September 11 (Wednesday) at around 2.20 a.m., an Audi car left the road for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree on country road 228 between the villages of Heinsberg-Randerath and Geilenkirchen-Lindern. The vehicle was severely damaged. According to initial findings, the vehicle was occupied by three people at the time of the accident, who were no longer in the vehicle when the emergency services arrived. One man was found in the field near the village of Lindern. He was seriously injured and taken to hospital by ambulance, where he remained hospitalized. Two other people could not be found. Due to the high speed at the time of the collision, it cannot be ruled out that the persons are still injured in the field or have tried to hitch a ride. A helicopter is therefore being used to search the area around the accident site to locate any injured persons.
