Robbery and theft

(jd) A 39-year-old man from Herford entered a grocery store on Ahmser Straße yesterday evening (19.2.) at around 7.55 pm. An employee noticed that the man had passed through the checkout area without paying for the goods he had stowed away in his rucksack. She then went to the man, whereupon he punched the employee and seriously injured her. Another employee and a customer who had observed the situation immediately came to the woman's aid and informed the police. The 39-year-old man, who is strongly suspected of aggravated robbery, is in police custody and has been provisionally arrested. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
