On Wednesday afternoon (August 1), there was a traffic accident on Detmolder Straße at the traffic circle with Witteler Straße in which a 46-year-old motorcyclist from Bielefeld was slightly injured. The man from Bielefeld entered the traffic circle at around 3.30 p.m. coming from Detmolder Straße and intended to drive straight onto the slip road to the A2 motorway. At the entrance to Witteler Straße coming from the right, he slipped onto the left side of his motorcycle and fell to the ground. Fortunately, he was only slightly injured as a result of the fall. Investigations at the scene of the accident revealed that the road had previously been contaminated by cooking fat, causing the 47-year-old to slip.
The police officers followed the road contamination to Vlotho, where they were able to identify the person responsible. A bucket of cooking fat tipped over on the loading area of a Mercedes Sprinter during the journey and spilled onto the road in the traffic circle. The 39-year-old driver from Vlotho had not noticed the overturning and the resulting accident. The road was cleaned up by the fire department and a specialist company. The motorcycle sustained minor material damage.
