The North Rhine-Westphalia police will continue to use Mercedes-Benz and Ford radio patrol cars in future. The State Office for Central Police Services has awarded the contract for the delivery. The first vehicles are due to be delivered at the end of 2025, replacing patrol cars that have been taken out of service.

Interior Minister Herbert Reul: "The patrol cars of the North Rhine-Westphalia police will remain state-of-the-art. This all-rounder vehicle class has proven itself in the past: Powerful and plenty of space for the extensive equipment - what police officers need on patrol duty. Nevertheless, we are constantly putting our vehicle fleet to the test. Alternative drive systems and other vehicle categories for different tasks are put through their paces."

The North Rhine-Westphalia police will continue to use the Mercedes-Benz "Vito" in future. The second model of the police patrol cars will change after the Ford "S-Max" is phased out: In future, Ford will supply the "Tourneo Custom" as an equivalent vehicle to the "Vito". A total of 800 vehicles will be supplied by both manufacturers to replace the old vehicles.
