(jd) Attentive witnesses observed a hit-and-run last night (30.9.) and informed the police. Shortly after midnight, the witnesses were driving their car in the left-turn lane on Levisonstraße and intended to turn into Blankener Straße. The driver of a Trabant, who was in front of the witnesses, drove in front of a traffic island that separates the lanes of Blankener Straße. He almost collided with a lamppost and was only able to avoid the collision by swerving into the opposite lane. However, the previously unknown driver swerved off the road and drove down an embankment. He then collided with a wall. However, the driver of the Trabant did not fulfill his obligations as a party to the accident, but drove off. There was another collision, this time with a sign. The witnesses informed the police. The officers who arrived immediately launched a manhunt and found the damaged car on the Elsedamm. The damage to the Trabant amounts to around 6000 euros. The driver is a 20-year-old from Enger, who is now facing charges of endangering road traffic and unauthorized removal from the scene of the accident. He was banned from driving vehicles requiring a driving license by the officers.
