Hit and run

(jd) A traffic accident occurred on Marktstraße yesterday (24.09.) at 9.10 pm. A 20-year-old man from Bünde first drove his Kia onto a traffic circle and left it at Marktstraße in the direction of Hindenburgstraße. He then intended to turn left onto Fünfhausenstraße. A Mercedes was coming towards him from this road and cut into the Kia driver's lane, resulting in a collision. Both road users initially stopped their vehicles, but then the Mercedes drove off in the direction of Hindenburgstraße. A short time later, however, the unknown driver turned his car around, passed the scene of the accident again and then drove off in the direction of Wittekindstraße. The 20-year-old informed the police and gave the officers the license plate number of the Mercedes. A witness who was on Fünfhausenstraße at the time of the accident also gave the license plate number and a description of the driver and his passenger. An investigation in the immediate vicinity was initially unsuccessful, but the officers were later able to locate the vehicle at the owner's address in Rödinghausen. In addition to the owner of the vehicle, the officers met a 22-year-old man who is believed to have been driving the Mercedes. His driver's license was confiscated. The material damage to the vehicles is in the four-digit range.
