Luckily, major damage was prevented after a senior citizen from Herford contacted the police control center in Herford on Monday evening (19.8.). The elderly lady was called at around 5 p.m. by an "alleged" bank employee from the supervisory board and informed about a debit from her account. Under false pretenses, the 86-year-old was asked to give her bank card PIN. After the senior citizen initially believed the employee's information and gave the PIN, a male person appeared at the front door a short time later and demanded the bank card for security reasons. The senior citizen initially handed over the debit card, but the situation seemed strange to her and she immediately informed the police. The EC card was blocked before any damage was done. The person who picked up the card was described by the victim as being about 20-30 years old, slim and about 180 cm tall. At the time of collection, he was wearing dark-framed glasses, a T-shirt and a dark cap.
Witnesses are being sought who observed suspicious persons or vehicles in the vicinity of the crime scene on Dieselstraße on Monday evening. Information can be obtained by calling 05221-8880.
