Escape from the police ends in a ditch

On Sunday evening (28.7.), police officers noticed a gray BMW on Holser Straße that appeared to be traveling at excessive speed. The BMW was to be stopped and checked as part of a general traffic check. Despite several signals to stop, the driver continued in the direction of Schulzentrum Nord, via Turnerstraße back in the direction of Holser Straße. The driver kept accelerating the BMW so that it was not possible for the police officers to stop. At the Schnellweg junction, the driver then lost control of his vehicle and skidded across oncoming traffic into the left-hand ditch on the right-hand bend there. The BMW ended up on its roof. The vehicle doors were opened by the police officers and three young people were able to get out of the vehicle with minor injuries. Investigations at the scene of the accident revealed that the BMW was being driven by a 16-year-old from Bünde who was not in possession of a valid driving license. He was using the vehicle without authorization in order to go for a drive with his friends. There were two other young people from Bünde aged 16 and 17 in the vehicle. The injured young people were given medical treatment on the spot by the emergency services and taken to hospital in Bünde. Their legal guardians were informed about the incident. The totally damaged BMW (approx. 22,000 euros) had to be towed away from the scene of the accident. The traffic commissioner's office has taken over the further investigation.
