(um) The Herford police carried out an independently initiated traffic control day in the district yesterday. One checkpoint was set up at the entrance to Herford's expressway in the Füllenbruch area and another at the entrance to Löhne on Lübbecker Straße. Both checkpoints were supported by specialized officers from the police traffic service and customs (Bielefeld main customs office), by Straßen NRW and DEKRA Bielefeld. The special focus of the checks was on the regulations on driving and rest periods (social regulations), load securing, the ban on the use of electronic devices and also advising drivers with the relevant driving license categories on how to avoid road accidents.
In addition, young officers from Herford police had the opportunity to gain an insight into the work area of the police traffic department for monitoring special traffic. During the morning and into the late afternoon, the police checked more than 120 vehicles. These included 43 trucks from different haulage companies and specialties. Overall, more than 50 percent of the vehicle inspections were objectionable. In addition to eight loading violations, there was even a 20 percent overloading violation for an electric vehicle. The most serious violations were one violation and thus one criminal charge relating to the liability insurance of a truck and two criminal charges for driving without a license. In addition to inspection reports to the road traffic authority and numerous misdemeanor reports against the Driving Personnel Act, a truck was also measured at 89 at 60 km/h during a speed check. The officers made a total of five security deposits. The police also issued numerous warnings and administrative offenses for violations relating to the use of cell phones, tires, general inspections, accident regulations and the obligation to wear seat belts. In order to increase road safety, such checks must be expected again and again in the district.
