On Thursday night (5.9.), two drivers appeared at the police station in Bünde and reported an altercation on Herforder Straße in Bünde. According to previous reports, a 47-year-old BMW driver from Bünde was driving along Levisionstraße at around 00:10 when a 28-year-old driver of a Mercedes Actros truck approached him shortly after the traffic circle with Klinkstraße.
The driver from Bünde was apparently severely dazzled by the truck's high beam and the driver from Nordstemmen briefly crossed into the oncoming lane, forcing the BMW driver to take evasive action. This prevented a collision. Due to the dicey situation, the man from Bünde followed the truck driver to draw his attention to the driving style.
On Herforder Straße, both vehicles stopped and the two drivers got into a verbal argument. During the argument, the left wing mirror of the truck was damaged and both drivers also stated that the other had spat at them or thrown a cigarette at them. The 47-year-old is also said to have thrown an oil can in the direction of the truck driver. After the altercation ended, both drivers reported the incident to the police.
During the investigation, the BMW driver was found to have a distinct odor of alcohol. A voluntary alco-test was positive, so blood samples were taken from the man from Bünde. The Herford criminal investigation department has taken over the further investigation to clarify the facts of the case and the allegations.
