(jd) On Sunday night (11.8.), two men from Herford, aged 38 and 40, were walking towards the city center after visiting a nightclub at around 4.15 am. In Steinstraße, they were approached by a group of around ten people who suddenly attacked the two men from Herford, initially verbally. This then developed into an argument. Shortly afterwards, the men, aged between 18 and 22, punched and kicked the 38-year-old and the 40-year-old. Even when both of them were lying on the ground, the strangers did not let go of them. A short time later, the strangers, some of whom had a European and some a southern European appearance, fled on foot in the direction of Deichtorwall and the train station. The police officers who were called to the scene immediately launched a manhunt, which was unsuccessful. The two men from Herford were injured and taken to a nearby hospital by an ambulance. The Herford criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation and is asking for any witnesses who observed anything unusual on Sunday night to contact them on 05221/8880.
