On Tuesday night (09.07.2024), a man triggered several police operations in different cities. He ended up spending the rest of the night in police custody.

First, the 45-year-old consumed alcohol with friends in Übach-Palenberg-Boscheln. After an acquaintance did not reciprocate the advances he made to her, a physical altercation ensued at around 1 am that night. When the 45-year-old then tried to leave the apartment, he stumbled down the stairs and injured his head. Undeterred, he got into his car and drove off under the influence of alcohol. However, he didn't get far: at the traffic circle between Übach-Palenberg and Herzogenrath, a patrol car from the Aachen police, who had previously received a tip-off from the Heinsberg police headquarters, approached him. Before the officers could stop him, the man had already veered off the road to the right and left several times and finally collided with a tree in the ditch. Together with colleagues from the Heinsberg police who had arrived, the officers got the man out of his vehicle. He fought back, resisted the measures, kicked a policewoman in the leg and threatened her. He was handcuffed and a spit hood was put on to stop his previous attempts to spit. The policewoman remained unharmed.

In the end, he spent the rest of the night in police custody until Tuesday afternoon, and the officers also confiscated his driver's license. The police are now investigating him for assault, damage to property, dangerous interference with road traffic, resisting law enforcement officers and threatening behavior. Finally, a blood sample was taken from him to establish his blood alcohol level with certainty.
