On 18 March 2024, District Administrator Dr. Olaf Gericke presented the 2023 traffic accident statistics together with the Head of Traffic Directorate Police Director Johannes Schütze.

"Although," said the head of the authority, "the district of Warendorf is again in first place compared to the other Münsterland authorities in terms of both accident frequency and casualties, a ten-year comparison clearly shows that the figures are at a similar level and that our accident frequency is higher than that of the state.

The number of fatal accidents on the roads in the Warendorf district has remained stable at eleven, as in the previous year. It is encouraging to see that fewer people were seriously injured. There were 184 in 2023 and 205 in 2022.

Dr. Olaf Gericke, head of the police authority, emphasizes: "Public life has returned to normal, as has traffic. This is also reflected in the slight increase in traffic accidents with personal injury. It is pleasing that fewer people were seriously injured."

Police Director Schütze added: "We were able to achieve a significant increase in the clearance rate for the very socially damaging hit-and-run accidents in which people were injured. This stands at 60 percent.

It is important to continue analyzing these trends. Appropriate measures must be taken to improve road safety and prevent accidents.
