In the Traffic Directorate of Aachen Police Headquarters, specialized officers work on the subject of "traffic accidents" - their tasks include traffic accident processing, traffic safety advice, traffic planning, traffic accident analysis, traffic monitoring and victim protection. The Traffic Directorate is divided into two traffic inspectorates. While Traffic Inspectorate 1 is responsible for operational activities, Traffic Inspectorate 2 is responsible for case processing.

Traffic Inspectorate 1

Traffic Inspectorate 1 works in the area of preventive and repressive traffic accident prevention. This includes the Traffic Service and Traffic Accident Prevention/Victim Protection departments.

The tasks assigned to the Traffic Service primarily include monitoring road traffic, although traffic control measures are also part of its remit. The targeted combating of traffic accidents is the guiding principle behind the tasks of the traffic service.

The traffic service also specializes in the monitoring and acceptance of heavy goods vehicles and special traffic as well as speed monitoring using special technology.

The Traffic Accident Prevention/Victim Protection department is involved in various campaigns and concepts for all target groups of police road safety work. Traffic (early) education in kindergartens and schools plays a particularly important role for the road safety advisors.

Since December 2011, Aachen police headquarters has been involved in the state-wide "Crash Course NRW" campaign to sustainably reduce the number of serious road accidents involving young people.

Traffic Inspectorate 2

Traffic Inspectorate 2 deals with all types of traffic accidents, traffic offenses and criminal offenses in road traffic. The inspection is divided into the departments
