This year, the Mettmann district police authority is once again carrying out the Project Correct initiated in 2012 to combat traffic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians and cyclists do not have a crumple zone and are therefore at high risk of being injured in a traffic accident. The campaigns focus on the municipalities
- Ratingen
- Hilden and
- Langenfeld
Causes
Causes of cycling accidents include, for example, using the wrong/prohibited lane, failing to observe the right-hand traffic regulations and entering and entering the traffic area. Pedestrians, on the other hand, cross the roadway without paying any attention to the traffic or cross the roadway at a different place than specified (pedestrian lights, crosswalk) in heavy traffic.
Focus checks
In order to combat traffic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists, the traffic service, the security service and the task force of the Düsseldorf police department carry out continuous checks on non-motorized and motorized road users. In the period from March to November, the police also carry out three priority operations in the above-mentioned municipalities with regard to possible misconduct.
Objective
A high level of control intensity is intended to have a lasting effect on the behavior of road users in the campaign municipalities. Consistent intervention in the event of traffic violations leads to more compliant behavior on the part of all road users. Misconduct towards "vulnerable road users" is the focus of traffic controls, but these people also require special supervision and monitoring.
Pedestrians and cyclists have no crumple zone!
They in particular often underestimate the dangers of road traffic, which are often caused by their own misconduct.
On-site advice with the Infomobile
Parallel to these intensified traffic checks, the police will be providing information on safe behavior for pedestrians and cyclists as part of the focus operations with an Infomobile. These consultations focus in particular on road safety on bicycles and reflective materials for pedestrians and cyclists.
