The traffic accident statistics for 2023 were presented to the press on Monday: by Chief Constable Ursula Mecklenbrauck, Verena Fischer (Head of the Traffic Directorate), Dagmar Moseler (Head of the Traffic Management Unit) and Torsten Pempelfort from the Traffic Management Unit (from left).

There were around 8400 accidents last year - an average of one almost every hour. In 90 percent of cases, there was only material damage. "Nevertheless, there were around 1,000 injuries," said Ursula Mecklenbrauck, who highlighted the work of victim protection and prevention experts at the press conference and also thanked the schools and kindergartens, which contributed significantly to the success of preventative events.

Verena Fischer reported on the number of children involved in accidents, of which there were 102 - the majority of them were on bicycles. "The hit-and-run accidents are particularly morally reprehensible," said Verena Fischer. There were 2023 in 1961, 69 of which were after accidents with injuries - in these cases, our experts from the traffic commissioner's office were able to clear up around two thirds".
