In certain areas of crime, women are more likely to be victims because of their gender, for example rape, sexual assault or purse snatching. Many of these crimes follow the same or similar patterns and could perhaps be avoided by changing behavior.
For example, studies by the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Hanover police have shown that women who defend themselves against a sex offender have a greater chance of preventing the completion of such an act.
The police concept of self-assertion courses for women is based on this finding.
