Club visits or private parties, traditional celebrations or themed parties, carnival or carnival - there is almost always a reason to celebrate. To ensure that you don't miss out on your own fun and safety, the police provide tips to prevent harassment and ensure a safe journey home. Harassment and physical altercations can sometimes occur, especially due to high alcohol consumption. Friends and acquaintances must also accept boundaries and may be rejected.
Everyone should protect themselves from conflicts and harassment despite all the fun. It is crucial to react immediately in an emergency. This includes a confident demeanor and quick action if necessary. No one should become a victim of harassment.
"In a serious situation, it is important to ask others for help, to stand up for others yourself, but not to put yourself in danger," says Dr. Stefanie Hinz, Chairwoman of State and Federal Police Crime Prevention. "If you are safety-conscious in public spaces, you can protect yourself from many dangers."
This also includes investing the money for the last drink in a cab ride home and preferring the illuminated main street to the darker, faster shortcut.
To make sure you get through the carnival safely, the police advise:
- Pay attention to each other. It's best to go in a group and try to keep an eye on each other throughout the evening.
- If you notice that a friend or acquaintance is particularly drunk, make sure they get home safely. Call a cab, for example.
- Keep an eye on your and your companions' drinks. Do not leave them unattended.
- Resist harassment and unwanted physical contact - even with acquaintances. Be assertive and make it clear that you will not tolerate this behavior.
- Ask others for help (friends, outsiders or venue staff).
- Make sure your cell phone is charged and ready to hand so that you can call the police in an emergency.
- Contact the police immediately on 110 if you or others are threatened or attacked.
- Make sure you get home safely: use public transport or cabs.
Important to know: The use of pepper spray or irritant gas is not always an effective aid. They can increase the aggressive behavior of perpetrators and thus increase the risk of injury for the victim.
Even special apps for a safe journey home are no substitute for the police. Only safety-conscious behavior and calling the emergency services immediately in an emergency can contribute to your protection.
