When the Ford-Mustang was pulled out, operating fluids got into the canal water. The Bergkamen fire department and the lower water authority were informed and representatives of the authorities attended the scene. A boat from the Waterways and Shipping Office took the badly demolished wrecked vehicle to a nearby harbor.

A check of the license plate revealed that the vehicle had already been stolen from Kemnastrasse in Recklinghausen on March 21, 2024 at around 19:15. The Central Criminal Investigation Department of the Water Police has started the investigation into the water pollution. The Recklinghausen police headquarters would be informed of the vehicle discovery.
